Sightseeing in Anchorage

Aug 30 Day 31
Today we enjoy the town of Anchorage.  We visit the Ulu factory, and learn about Alaskan Wild Berry Products.  Also had dinner at the famous Mooses Tooth restaurant.
This town is not RV friendly, Walmart will have your RV towed, and no RV parking on any of the streets in town.  Had to pay to park and could only stay 4 hrs.
Dom liked the fact that this city had everything very close, about 1/2 mile between Walmart Sams and Costco.  They have everything just like home.
they make this knife that was used 5000 years ago by the natives of Alaska

The Ulu factory
notice Chicago 2800 miles, this has to be as the crow flies

fun in Anchorage
If you can see the girls bathroom is labeled Dollies after a pretty fish, and the men are called
Chums after salmon
Good Pizza and brewery The Mooses Tooth
this pretty tree is called the  Red Rowan it has a red berry on it

This is a chocolate fountain at the chocolate factory Wild Berries.

Anchorage

Aug 29 Day 30
Skipped a day of blog, needed to do laundry and do nothing.
Today was eventful, I slid 10 ft down a mountain.
We decided to climb a mountain called Flat Top, how hard could that be it has a fat top, well not the case.  3.5 mile hike.  One of the tallest mountains in the area at 3600 ft.  I have the booboos to prove it.  Even with my walking sticks nothing stops you from sliding down gravel.  Good thing I had lots of padding on my butt.
A little bit about Flattop Mountain
If you can see the thing that looks like a pointed cloud in the sky that is
Mt Denali or in the past called Mt McKinley

beautiful view from as far as we went
Kid with a drone that can fly 3 miles out but you had to allow power to return
Dom went about a 1/4 mile further before he gave up and came back.  I stopped at this point to wait for him.
Slid down on the gravel next to the stairs, the stairs looked worse then the side so bad decision.
Les would have been able to do this no sweat, balance is an issue with this climbing.
my Booboos
A neat pine cone that looked purple
Afterward I needed chocolate so went to the chocolate factory

On the way to Anchorage

Aug 27 Day 29
Well all better, nice nights sleep and we had a great day.  Saw a little more of Alyeska resort and loved it.  You will to it has some neat things.
Also went to Crow Creek Mine, near Girdwood, a mining town and panned for gold.  You will see that too. Oh and also a wedding that was going to happen at the mine.
This resort had a cool bike run, also a neat bar and band

This world had a fire inside to heat the area

These are photos of the bar and ceiling it was beautiful but also fun looking
you get a helmet, has to be this kind so you don't mess up your face or brains.
You rent a bike for 100 a day
then
You put the bike on a ski lift
then you get on the ski lift behind the bikes
Then you race down the mountain at 40 miles an hope you might win the race
They are all a little nuts like Cory here using his bike as a guitar
Then you call the Dr. this sign was on the side of the building as you end the race.
Had to enjoy watching these young people loving the thrill.

the beautiful flowers and trees at this resort
After the resort we went to a gold mine to find some money to pay for all this
Dom tried very hard
I found this much, about 50 cents worth

this was the couple that was getting married in the mining town

This is how they kept the soft drinks cool that's ice cold water the little kids loved it

We enjoyed the other sight at the mining town
We met this couple at the Double Musky restaurant Kathy and Bruce,
I had halibut and Dom had fish pasta yum
Finally at the end of the day on the road called the Turnagain Arm north to Anchorage we see all these people leaving their cars to get this water coming out of a mountain.  They tell us it's the greatest water ever (I'm hoping it cures all my arthritis and makes me 30 years younger.  The most refreshing water I ever tasted, wish I could bring some home to all of you.

On the way to Girdwood, Alyeska Ski resort

Aug. 26 Day 27
Well I had a very bad night in Whittier, no rain but the wind was shaking the RV so bad I thought it was going to tip over soon therefore I am very crabby today.
We really did like Whittier.  It is a working town just like many seaside towns. During WWII the government built the tunnel and the town to supply the Army and Navy to fight the Japanese, when the war ended the military pulled out,  so now we have a town that can't sustain itself so the gov. helps and then the pipeline adds revenue.  The Gov. subsidizes the ferry system and aids these towns too. Thanks for the oil, that and tourism (cruise ships) keeps Alaska afloat.  Took more beautiful photos and then headed out through that big tunnel.
We went to Girdwood to the Alyeska Ski resort to ride the tram, but first we stopped at the Alaskan Wildlife Conservation Center for injured and orphaned animals.  Lots of animal shots and lots of walking.  Remember now NO Lunch and I'm tied so I'm telling Dom I'd like to do the tram tomorrow; but Nooooo he meets some couple with the same motorhome and my wishes are out the window.  They are going up the tram now so we are too.  Then they're going to climb a mountain to see 7 more glaciers. That is when I put the brakes on and I'm not going anywhere.  I want to go home to my little nest and eat and rest.  He went up the mountain without me and I sat in a deli at the top of the mountain fuming.  Oh forgot one thing, the guy that drove the shuttle gave us free tickets to the Tram so Free means we have to go today, only good for one day.  I told you I was crabby.  Sorry but I am just about glaciered out.  Oh one more good thing I forgot, it's a sunny day.
We are staying in the parking lot at the Alyeska ski resort, OK by me just give me my pillow.
