Palmer on the way to the Kenai Peninsula

Aug 18th day 19
Happy Birthday Tania
After spending 2 night in Valdez at Bear Paw RV park we are on our way to Palmer.
A little update on motorhome living, picture yourself in rural America, very rural and your trying to find a decent place to eat and you've been driving all day and it's 7pm.  Oh yes and it's raining.
You find your motorhome park, very easy in Alaska, everyone must have a motorhome and an airplane.  You pull in hook up, 15min. max we got it down, and you make yourself a nice bowl of tortellini ( thanks Les)  with pesto and your nice and cozy.  A glass of your favorite wine and turn on the olympics.  Then you plan what your going to see and do tomorrow.
Our final day in Valdez was informative:
1.No Cruise ships come anymore because the town would not bend to all their requirements, like tour only where and when they want too, and charge much higher prices because the ship can, and they get their cut.  Also sell souvenirs at unbelievable prices only where they want to stop.  Holland America pulled out in the middle of a season and the stores were stuck with all kinds of souvenirs.  This town never wants to see a cruise ship again.
2.Valdez is the northern most port town in the US and the water doesn't freeze because it's salt water and it has a lot of movement.
3. Alaska has so many Glaciers they stopped naming them, Glacier National Park doesn't have to worry about the US losing all it's glaciers Alaska has a ton.
4. No mosquitos so far maybe because it never stops raining and it's only 50 degrees.
5.Forgot they have 5 kinds of salmon 2 more for the list Pink Salmon and Chum Salmon.
6.This Blog is a blessing because I would forget half of what I did and learned.
A little more about the hatchery, have more photos, the salmon swim into the hatchery and they take the eggs then gut and sell the fish since it's going to die anyway. It must be sold for animal food. Not edible.
Spending the night in Palmer at Fox Run RV Park, may be back here for the state fair.  AAA discount
