Day 2 in Juneau

Aug. 12 day 13
Today another bad day in Juneau so we are off to the Museum and a bus ride into town.  We took the bus because it took us 1 hr to find the glacier yesterday when it was 20 min away.  We are so direction challenged.  We both comment "isn't that the place we were lost before"  The bus was a sure thing and I have to say the people of Alaska all wanted us to get off at the right stop they were so helpful.  Very nice and I think part of it is because we are old.  The population has many Asians along with people from all over the US.  Unlike Canada English speaking everywhere.  Peter the Great of Russia invaded Alaska and the Russian were after the fur, they abused the natives until the Russian orthodox church put a stop to it,  They ruled for 135 years until they sold it to the United States and then we came in and raped the land, taking fur, oil, wood, gold, zinc and anything we could take until the gov. put a stop to it.  The story of Patsie Ann the dog was heartwarming.  She was deaf but she knew a half hour before each ship would come into dock and what dock it would land and would happily greet everyone, back in the 1930s. She was owned by the town and when dogs had to have a license the town bought hers. She hung around all the midshipmen and when she died they buried her at sea.  She was a bull terrier.
